Three elephants die of electrocution in Orissa
Three elephants, were electrocuted after they came in contact with live wires in Orissa's Keonjhar district, officials said on Sunday.
The pachyderms, believed to be 45 to 50 years old, died on Saturday near Durlabhapur on Telkoi-Bimala road.
Bijay Kumar Mallick, divisional forest officer (Telkoi), has held power distribution company Nesco responsible for the death.
"We will take appropriate action against Nesco and demand compensation," he said.
Due to a lack of coordination between state forest department and the power distribution company, over 15 elephants have been electrocuted in the district during last eight years, officials said.
