Thettayil ‘erred, woman played foul’
Kochi: Legal fraternity is split over the action of the alleged victim in the Jose Thettayil sex scandal in sharing the tape content with the media. A section blames former Transport Minister Jose Thettayil for cheating a divorcee by proffering his son’s hand in marriage and going to bed with her.
The woman is liable to be charged under the Information and Technology Act as well as the Indian Penal Code for purveying obscenity. However, the fraternity is united in blaming Thettayil for involving in illegal activities, discarding moral and legal principles.
Advocate Sivan Madathil opined that Mr Thettayil misused his position as an MLA. “He is a lawyer, politician and former minister. No one can accept Jose Thettayil’s actions. He should be a role model to society. The allegation that he lured her into sex on a certain promise is shocking”.
Media critic and lawyer Sebastian Paul said “She gave the tape to the media three days before officially filing a complaint with the police”.
“People tend to suspect her action. If she wanted a remedy she should have filed a police complaint and produced the sex tape before the magistrate for evidence”, said Dr Paul.
