Telugu actor to be questioned in drug-racket case
Telugu film actor Varun Sandesh is likely to be questioned by Central Crime Station (CCS), a wing of Hyderabad Police, in connection with his name figuring in an accused's confession last month in a drug peddling case.
"The actor will be issued summons shortly and we will question him soon along with other suspects," a senior police officer supervising the investigations into the various drug racket cases busted in Hyderabad, said.
The actor would be questioned whether he was involved in drug-peddling or consumption, the police officer said.
The Langar Houz police had arrested doctor Siddharth here along with Nigerian drug-peddler James Egems last month, who in his confession said that he procured cocaine and later consumed it with his friends including Sandesh.
The young actor, however, has denied all the charges against him. Asked if the probe into the case was being delayed, the police officer said: "We have some information and we are working on it. Our teams are working out on the clues in Bengaluru and other places." Sandesh, who came into the limelight with Telugu movie 'Happy Days', also scored a hit with 'Kotta Bangaru Lokam'.
During July and August last year, Hyderabad police had busted several drug-rackets involving Nigerian and Ugandan nationals, which also helped them in exposing the drug mafia- Tollywood link.
The arrested had reportedly revealed that their clients included actors, actresses from Telugu film industry and important personalities from posh Hyderabad areas.
