Telecom bosses summoned again
A fresh summons to appear in court on February 22 has been issued to Essar Group promoters Anshuman and Ravi Ruia and Loop Telecom promoters I.P. Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan after they failed to appear at a court hearing on Friday in the 2G spectrum scam case.
The summons, which had been issued earlier December 21, were reissued by CBI special judge O.P. Saini to all four after a defence counsel said the summons were not “duly” served on the Ruias and Khaitans.
“I do not find anything wrong with the service (of summons) by affixation. However, considering that all four accused were stated by their employees to be in Dubai, I deem it proper that before issuing any coercive process for procuring their presence in court, one more attempt be made to effect personal service or, in the alternative, service by affixation.”
Accused Vikash Saraf, Essar Group director (strategy and planning), sought exemption from personal appearance for four weeks.
The CBI special court, however, allowed the exemption only for Friday, listed the matter for further proceedings on February 22.
