Telangana supporters call for 48-hr bandh
The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has called for a 48-hour bandh on July 5 and 6 demanding the Congress-led UPA government to initiate the process of bifurcating the state and introduce a bill in the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The TJAC also announced 48-hour rail roko protests to cut off rail links between South, North and other regions of the country on July 8 and 9 and other series of agitations, hours after 100-odd Congress, Telugu Desam MPs, MLAs and MLCs submitted resignations to their seats in Hyderabad and New Delhi.
It also announced students’ rallies in all Telangana villages on July 7, rail roko to cut off rail services between south and north regions of the country on July 8 and 9, Vanta Varpu (cooking on roads) in the entire Telangana region barring Hyderabad on July 10.
The TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said these agitations would be followed by blockade of national and state highways, non-cooperation by government employees and other severe agitations to pressurise the Centre.
The TJAC held an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Kodandaram and attended by the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Ms Vijayashanti, MP and representatives of various JACs and decided to intensify the agitations. Telangana leaders were irked by Mr Chidamba-ram’s statement that Telangana decision could be taken only after completion of consultative process with all parties and that everything was under control while referring to resignations by Congress and TD leaders.
