Telangana resignation show turns topsy-turvy
The Telangana Congress MLAs were at a loss on Sunday regarding their next course of action after their resignations were rejected by the Assembly Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, on Saturday.
The legislators have now decided to wait for the outcome of the formal talks with the AICC General Secretary, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Monday in New Delhi and then decide what to do next.
The Telugu Desam and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti legislators, meanwhile, decided to submit fresh resignation on Monday and the rebel TD leaders actually submitted the same on Sunday itself.
However, differences among the Telangana Congress legislators cropped up over submitting fresh resignations on Sunday.
The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, reportedly contacted several Telangana Congress legislators and advised them against submitting fresh resignations and asked them to continue talks with the party high command regarding their demands for a separate Telangana.
The turnout of the Telangana Congress leaders was quite poor during the meeting of the Telangana Steering Committee that was held at the residence of the panchayat raj minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy.
The TD Telangana legislatures decided to submit fresh resignations on Monday without waiting for a response from the Congress.
Options for Congress
*Wait for the outcome of resignations submitted by Telangana MPs and MLCs and then take a final decision.
*Without rushing in with fresh resignations, to continue talks with the party leadership and wait till July 31 and then take a decision on resignations.
