Hyderabad: The Telangana Joint Action Committee and the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti have called for a 24-hour bandh from Friday night to Saturday night to protest against the Save Andhra Pradesh public meeting of the APNGOs at LB Stadium here on September 7.
The pro-Telangana organisations said they will block national highways leading to Hyderabad from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions during the bandh. The Telangana Student JAC gave a 48-hour bandh call from Friday 5 am to Saturday 5 pm in both Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

Hyderabad: City police commissioner Anurag Sharma on Thursday justified the police granting permission for the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers meet at LB Stadium on September 7, saying that permission was given on first come, first served basis.
He said the police had permitted pro-Telangana groups and political parties in the past, but considering the current law and order situation, the proposed rallies of the Telangana groups cannot be allowed on the same day.
“Based on our previous experiences with the Telangana rallies, permission was not given for the Peace Rally of Telangana groups,” Sharma said, adding that pro-Telangana groups could apply for permission to hold their rally on any day other than September 7, and police will look into it. However, TJAC has called off the Peace Rally on Thursday night.

Hyderabad: City police commissioner Anurag Sharma appealed to the Telangana groups not to take the law into their hands on Saturday, when the APNGO meet is scheduled. “To the best of our ability, we will make sure no untoward incidents take place on that day. I appeal to such organisations (pro-Telangana groups) not to take law into their hands,” the commissioner said, warning that if anybody disrupts peace in the city, they will be firmly dealt with.
The police chief said that peaceful democratic protests are not banned in the city, and the APNGO organisers have agreed to abide by 19 instructions given by the police while conducting the meet.
“In the past, we had given permission to groups like Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the Telangana Congress, BJP and others for their public meetings. They applied, and we allowed them after examining the situation.
However, in this case, APNGOs approached us first, on August 22, while the Telangana groups approached us after that, on August 31. So we gave permission to the former on first-come-first-served basis,” said Sharma.
The commissioner said that a large security force will be deployed. “We are going to deploy 45 platoons of AP Special Police and 11 platoons of paramilitary forces, apart from the local police. If there is a need, we will ask for additional forces from the districts,” he said.
The commissioner denied the allegation that the police were hard on Telangana supporters. “We are not biased against any groups. We examine the situation and if there is no threat of violence, we give permission for programmes of any parties,” he said.
Asked if political leaders will be allowed inside the APNGO meet, commissioner said that the cops have not got any information about the participation of political leaders. “No outsiders will be allowed inside the stadium,” he said.
