Teenage girl gangraped in SDM office

Growing incidents of crime against women in Tripura reached it’s height on Sunday night when a teenaged girl was gangraped inside the office of the sub-divisional magistrate of Ambassa in Dhalai district.
Three persons has been arrested in this connection while two others still absconding.
Three persons with a Maruti Van offered the girl a lift when she was waiting for bus at Champaknagar area in West Tripura district but instead of taking the girl to her destination they took her to 100 km away in Ambassa SDM office where two more persons joined them and raped her throughout the night.

Mastermind in lecturer case arrested

A special police team on Wednesday arrested Younus, who masterminded the attack on the college lecturer, Prof T.J. Joseph, early this month. Younus, 33, an activist of the radical Muslim outfit Popular Front, was picked up from Palakkad while he was travelling secretly to Kerala from Nagoor in Tamil Nadu.
A team led by the superintendent of police, Mr P.N. Unnirajan, then took him to Moovattupuzha, where a court remanded him to police custody for 10 days. He is being interrogated at present. On July 4, an eight-member gang had attacked and chopped off the palm of Prof Joseph, 52, a lecturer of the Thodupuzha Newman’s College.

Doc chops baby hand in delivery

A gynecologist was on Wednesday arrested at Pithora in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district for allegedly “chopping of” a baby’s hand during delivery, police said.
According to the police, a pregnant woman — Santoshi (25) — was admitted in a private nursing home in the locality for delivery on July 11. She had allegedly developed pregnancy complicacy as a result of which the gynecologist — Ramani Gurdutt — had advised her to go for caesarian delivery.
“The baby was dangerously placed in womb”, Pramila Mandari, inspector-in-charge, quoted the doctor.

Raids in UP jails after prisoners flee

Raids were carried out in several jails in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, following the escape of 9 prisoners form Meerut jail on Tuesday.
According to sources, district authorities led by district magistrate and superintendent of police (SP) conducted raids at the jails in Etah, Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Muzaffarnagar, Mau, Kanpur and several other jails of the state.
The inmates were found to be in possession of several objectionable articles including knives, mobile phones, blades and eatables.
