Teen in cop trouble over fake Facebook post
Even as the furore over the arrest of two young women in Palghar, over a critical Facebook comment on the bandh after Bal Thackeray’s death was ebbing, a young man from the same area found himself in a similar situation after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists complained over his allegedly derogatory post on Facebook about their leader Raj Thackeray.
Shiv Vishwakarma, 19, was taken to the Thane police cyber crime cell, which is investigating the case.
“We only questioned the boy after MNS activists lodged a complaint. No arrest was made,” said a Palghar police official.
It was later found that an unidentified person had created the fake account in the name of Vishwakarma and posted the 'abusive' comment.
Thane additional superintendent of police S. Nishandar said Vishwakarma had accessed his own Facebook account last on Monday, while the comment on the fake FB account was posted the next day.
“Vishwakarma is helping us. We have registered a case against unidentified person,” the officer said.
The police has begun to probe the identity of the person who created the fake account.
The coastal town of Palghar meanwhile remained closed on Wednesday following a bandh called by the Shiv Sena to protest the action taken against police officers who had arrested Shaheen Dadha and Renu Srinivasan, the two women held in last week’s Facebook controversy.
