Team Anna may face charges
Despite written assurances, the team is apparently flouting the Supreme Court and the police guidelines during the ongoing fast at Ramlila Maidan. The Delhi police is likely to press criminal charges against the Team Anna. There have been alleged violation of at least seven clauses given in the undertaking which was submitted before the police.
Conditions violated by Mr Hazare and his supporters include allowing permission to a government medical officer to examine the Gandhian activist, disruption of traffic in and around Ramilila Maidan, using loudspeakers beyond the permitted 10 pm. There also have been reports of unruly crowds, provocative speeches by Mr Hazare and his team members, including Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi.
The police had earlier made the Team Anna sign a mandatory undertaking before giving them permission for holding the march at Ramlila Grounds. The crowd has bulged at the venue since the fast began and the organisers have been allegedly unable to contain the actions of the protesters, some of whom were drunk and unruly.
The Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta on Friday met top brass to take stock of the situation.
“We are examining the footage that has been shot at the venue and appropriate action will be taken,” a senior police official said.
When asked whether a case will be filed against the organisers, the official said, “If violations have taken place, law will take its own course.”
