Tata lauds CM’s ‘swift, firm action’
What seems to come as a surprise to even most of the Trinamul Congress leaders, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata commended the “swift and firm action” of chief minister Mamata Banerjee in wake of the fire tragedy at AMRI Hospital in Kolkata. Mr Tata tweeted: “The swift and firm action of the chief minister is commendable.” This comment of Mr Tata is really a significant one especially when he had accused Ms Banerjee (then the main Opposition leader in West Bengal) for forcing the Tata Motors’ to pull out the Nano project from Singur in October, 2008. Ms Banerjee had spearheaded an intensified agitation against the “forcible land acquisition” for the Nano project at Singur. However, neither the chief minister nor any Trinamul Congress leader made any comment on Mr Tata’s tweet.
In his tweet, the Tata Group chairman said: “The recent events in the hospital in Kolkata, resulting in the deaths of several patients is deplorable and inexcusable. All hospitals’ primary mandate should be to save the lives of patients, and should not be driven by making extraordinary profits. Every doctor and staff member should be primarily concerned with the well-being of patients with a responsibility for caring treatment. Doctors and attendants allegedly leaving patients to die unattended in these circumstances is unbelievable and deserves condemnation.”
