Tangedco set to address voltage woes
Chennai: With complaints of voltage fluctuation in Madipakkam and Thillai Ganga (TG) Nagar pouring in, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has decided to enhance capacity of a power transformer (PT) and install an additional one in the 33/11 KV TG Nagar Substation to avoid overloading.
Even as people in the city are saved from two hours load shedding, residents of Madipakkam and TG Nagar have been complaining of severe voltage fluctuation every night. Local Tangedco officials cited the lack of distribution network as the reason for the voltage fluctuation.
Tangedco recently enhanced the capacity of existing PT in e TG Nagar substation from 8 MVA to 16 MVA. “Further a proposal has been evolved for erection of an additional 16 MVA PT in the substation. The works will be taken up and completed at the earliest,” said a senior Tangedco official.
The official said that Tangedco could not set up a 110 KV or 33 KV sub station due to no land, TG Nagar and Vanuvampet area. “We have written to the corporation commissioner and CMDA authorities to allot lands for establishment of either 110 KV or 33 KV sub station and they have assured to spare the lands allocated for the purpose of government utilities in the cooperative societies developed in those areas to Tangedco for establishment of stations,” the official said.
