Swami buried after 2nd post-mortem
Swami Nigamanand was buried at the Matri Sadan Ashram having been given a “Bhu Samadhi’ by other sadhus of the ashram.
A second post-mortem was performed by a team of five doctors conducted led by chief medical officer of Hardwar, Dr Yogesh Sharma.
Swami Nigamanand died after fasting for 115 days over illegal quarrying and mining operations, known to be overseen by several local politicians, in the Ganga river.
Nigamanand’s father Subhash Chandra Jha and other family members had been demanding his body be handed over to them so they could perform his last rites at his native place in Bihar’s Darbhanga district.
Their request had not been accepted by the other Matri Sadan swamis who had pointed out that that Nigamananda had fasted earlier for 73 and 68 days respectively but had received no support from any family members in the past.
BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and local Congress leaders, including Harish Rawat were present in Hardwar on Thursday to express solidarity with the seer.

NEW DELHI
June 16: Uttarakhand governor Margaret Alva met home minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday and is believed to have discussed the circumstances related to the death of Swami Nigamanand after a four-month fast. The meeting comes in the backdrop of the demand for a CBI inquiry into the Swami’s death being raised by various quarters including Swami Nigamanand’s family members. However, government sources said that neither the home minister nor the DoPT has so far received any request by the state government to hand over the case to the CBI.
The agitation by yoga guru Baba Ramdev is also believed to have figured in the meeting.
