Suspended PSI gets reinstated

The traffic police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi, who was beaten up by two MLAs over a heated argument, and was later suspended, has been reinstated in the service.

Sources say that a recent order issued to the traffic police official has asked him to resume his duty.
On March 18, Suryawanshi had booked MLA Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Aghadi) for speeding on the Bandra-Worli sealink and using a car with tinted glasses. Thakur had allegedly abused Suryavanshi and then sped off to Vidhan Bhavan.
Thakur then moved a breach of privilege motion against Suryavanshi, claiming that the officer had refused to give details of the sections imposed on him and threatened him with dire consequences. On March 19, deputy chairperson of the Legislative Council Vasant Davkhare called the MLAs and Suryavanshi to his office to resolve the issue, but instead Thakur and Ram Kadam (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) assaulted the official.
An offence was then registered in this regard with the Marine Drive police station against the two MLAs and other unknown accused, and the city police’s crime branch was asked to probe the matter. An internal departmental inquiry was also ordered against Suryavanshi, in which investigators found that he was rude to Thakur that instigated him. Subsequently, he was suspended from the service.
“A few days ago, a departmental order was issued and Suryavanshi was reinstated. He is attached with the Worli traffic division and sits in the BDD Chawl office of the same. He has resumed the service,” said an officer.
The crime branch SIT had filed a 130-page chargesheet in the matter.
This includes statements of 27 witnesses, including a police official attached with the Vidhan Sabha security, who had alleged that he saw one of them (Ram Kadam) hit the police officer. Another witnesses too alleged that Thakur had kicked Suryawanshi. The matter will now be heard on October 30.
