Suryanamaskar move irks MP Catholic body
Strong reservations have been expressed by the Catholic Council of Bishops of Madhya Pradesh against the state school education department’s move to introduce suryanamaskar, Gitasar and a circular to ban the use of neckties as part of school uniform.
The Madhya Pradesh Catholic Council on Sunday passed a resolution demanding that unnecessary interference in the working of institutions being run by the Christian minorities should be stopped.
The resolution goes on to say that the Madhya Pradesh school education department is trying to divide the people by introducing concepts like suryanamaskar, bhojan mantra, Gitasar and also by issuing a circular to ban the use of neckties as part school uniform. Instead of focusing attention on these things, there should be efforts to improve the quality of education being imparted to students in the state, the Catholic Council has emphasised.
The resolution further points out that many schemes have been introduced by the Centre and the state government for the welfare of those belonging to the minorities but the fact remains that the Christians were neither getting the benefit of scholarships nor schemes introduced for granting loans and facilitating self-employment in the state.
It has also been asserted that members of the Christian community should be involved directly in the planning and implementation of schemes meant for the uplift and progress of the minorities.
