Sunrisers has Lankans:âJayalalithaa taunts Karunanidhi
Chennai: Accusing DMK president M. Karunanidhi of duplicity in his âchampioningâ the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday demanded to know his stand on grandson Kalanidhi Maran recruiting Sri Lankan players for his Sunrisers IPL team.
Participating in the discussion on a special call attention motion on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue and the studentsâ protests, the Chief Minister pointed out that Maranâs team has Kumar Sangakkara, a Sri Lankan, as its captain. Another Lankan, Thisara Perera, is also part of the Sunrisers team. âHow does Karunanidhi permit this?â she asked.
âThis is the height of his selfishness. Even while pretending he has concern for Sri Lankan Tamils, he continues his ties with the Congress-led government at the Centre even though it supported the Sri Lankan regime in its annihilation of Tamils. Why this duplicity? People have well understood this double-speak of Karunanidhi,â Â Jayalalithaa said.
DMK cheating tamil people: Jaya
Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday insisted that as far as she and her government were concerned, they had been consistent in opposing the ethnic war against the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Also, she pointed out that DMK's T.R. Baalu remained as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways. âKarunanidhi remains mum about this even while insisting that the DMK now has no links with the Central government,â the Chief Minister said.
She also recalled that the DMK chief kept quiet when party general secretary K. Anbazhagan declared at the executive committee meet that the party would do nothing to topple the UPA government.
She accused Mr Karunanidhi of deceit by continuing 'secret ties' with the Centre while pretending to make sacrifices (for the sake of Sri Lankan Tamils). âHe is trying to cheat Tamil people. There cannot be a greater betrayal,â the Chief Minister said.Â
