Suicide bid by BJD leader’s ‘daughter’

Sanjita Dhali, who claims to be the daughter of former minister and influential BJD leader Arabinda Dhali, on Thursday attempted to commit suicide by consuming an overdose of sleeping pills.
The 24-year-old lady has been admitted to Capital Hospital here. Her condition, according to doctors treating her, is stable and out of danger.
Sanjita, a mother of two daughters, has been fighting a long legal battle against her claimed father who refuses to accept her as his daughter. The court has also ordered a paternity test.
On July 26, 2009, Sanjita created ripples in the political circle here when she claimed that she is the daughter of the senior BJD MLA. She said that Mr Dhali had deserted her mother when she was barely three months old.
Later, Sanjita lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station here demanding legal sanction to the claim.
