Students, employees hit most
Hyderabad: Who would be most affected by the bifurcation of the state? The impact will be felt most by students and employees as the education and employment sectors, comprising lakhs of people, are governed by common rules and regulations.
After bifurcation, students from Telangana will be at an advantage over their counterparts in Seemandhra region when it comes to opportunities in the higher education sector with the presence of a large number of colleges in and around Hyderabad.
Professional courses such as engineering, medical, dental, pharmacy, management, computer applications, teacher training among others have always been in great demand in the state since 2000.
To meet this demand, thousands of professional colleges came up in the state within a span of a decade and majority of them were established in and around the city. These come under the jurisdiction of Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda of the Telangana region.
The colleges located in Seemandhra region are in districts and tier-II, III cities and they can’t compete with those located near Hyderabad in terms of offering quality faculty and infrastructure facilities and access to jobs in the city.
Moreover, all the major companies are confining themselves to campus placements only in colleges located near Hyderabad and hardly any major company visits colleges in other districts.
“After the bifurcation, students from Seemandhra region will be treated like those from neighbouring states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu etc. They can now apply for seats only in the limited quota,” said Ramesh Nimmatoori, chairman, Consortium of Engineering and Professional Colleges Managements Association of Andhra Pradesh.
