Students bring beer to school, are dismissed
Two Plus-2 students of a government higher secondary school in Salem, Tamil Nadu who were caught drinking alcohol in the school toilet on Thursday, have been asked to leave.
Two other students who were also caught in the act have not taken their Transfer Certificate (TC) so far because the parents have not turned up at the school as yet although summoned by the principal.
According to sources, the four students of the Government Higher Secondary School in Udayapatti had brought beer to school and made their way to the toilets to drink it clandestinely during the lunch hour.
The other students of the school learnt about it and soon the school principal too got to hear of it. He then conducted an inquiry into the incident and called the parents of all four students.
The two parents who did turn up were informed the students could not continue at the school as they would be a bad influence on the others and given the TCs, according to sources.
Meanwhile Chief Education Officer (CEO), Salem, R Easwaran, said he would look into the incident himself.
“Students cannot drink alcohol in schools. The school principal has taken disciplinary action against the four students concerned as their conduct could affect the others. The Ammapettai police too has visited the school to look into the incident,” he added.
