Student beaten up for speaking in Telugu at AP school
City Police on Thursday booked principal of a public school here for allegedly beating up a student of class IV for conversing in Telugu with her classmate.
NSN English Medium Public School principal NSN Murthy has been booked under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after parents of nine-year-old Pavani lodged a complaint, they said.
Murthy was taken into custody for questioning.
According to the complaint, the principal summoned Pavani to his chamber and beaten her up with a scroll after he found her talking in Telugu with fellow student in class room on March 6.
The child sustained injuries on her right hand and forearm and is sent to King George Hospital for treatment.
According to sources in the school, speaking in English is the norm at the institution.
