Strong tremors felt across Chennai

Strong tremors were felt across different parts of the city on Wednesday afternoon following a 8.9 quake
that hit waters off westernmost Aceh province in Indonesia.

The US Geological Survey said on Wednesday the quake was centred 33 kilometres beneath the ocean floor around 495 kilometres from the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.

People in multi-storeyed apartments and those working in high rise buildings rushed out in panic after they felt the tremors in Chennai.
