Stir against Mamata was planned: IB

An Intelligence Bureau report in the Kamduni gangrape and murder case toed chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s line and claimed that the public protest she faced on June 17 during her visit to the Barasat village was planned in advance by a group of women — all CPI(M) supporters.

The report named Tumpa Kayal, Mousumi Kayal and four others as active CPI(M) workers. The report also mentioned the presence of Maoists in Kamduni. It must be remembered that on the day she visited Kamduni, Ms Banerjee had branded the women protesters as CPI(M) supporters and accused them of doing dirty politics over a tragedy. Two days later at a rally, the chief minister had alleged that Maoists and CPI(M) had planned to kill her in Kamduni. Ms Banerjee had apparently been peeved by the sustained agitation that the women of the obscure village had organised to protest the gangrape.
A report prepared by the ADG (IB ) was submitted to the state home department on Friday evening, which faithfully reflected the charges the chief minister made since her visit to Kamduni. Sources said that the IB report said that Tumpa Kayal, Mousumi Kayal, Aparna, Suchitra Mondal, Mita Kayal and Jaba Hazra — active CPI(M) supporters had held a meeting where it was decided that they would embarrass the CM.
