STF mistakenly kills UP farmer
A farmer lost his life in a case of mistaken identity when the special task force personnel mistook him for a history-sheeter and shot him dead.
The incident took place in Ujhani area in Badaun district on Sunday.
The STF personnel, acting on a tip off that history sheeter, Prithviraj Singh, was hiding in Sanjarpur village, surrounded a hut where presence of the criminal was suspected, senior superintendent of the police Navneet Kumar Rana said. He said, in the meanwhile, a bullet was fired from the hut, which hit STF jawan Yogesh Yadav in his chest.
“The STF team also opened fire as a result of which the hut caught fire and was gutted,” said Mr Rana.
When the local residents reached the spot, they informed the STF and police that a farmer Brijpal Singh used to live in the hut. His burnt body was then sent for post-mortem. The body was later identified as that of Brijpal by his wife and son.
Agitated local residents later blocked Badaun-Agra road. They accused the police of mindlessly killing Brijpal and later torching his body.
The SSP said that on the written complaint lodged by Brijpal’s son, a murder case has been lodged against policemen.
