States want uniform curriculum
The government’s efforts to develop a national vocational education curriculum framework for students received a boost on Thursday after the proposal was unanimously endorsed by the state governments.
Official sources stated that it was also decided to constitute a group of ministers (GoM) of state education ministers to submit the modalities and framework for the same.
“The committee is expected to be constituted soon and has been asked to submit its report by May this year. The GoM will suggest ways and means for strengthening vocational education in the country at all levels and to develop a broad consensus on the contours of the National Vocational Education Qualifications Framework,” sources added.
The endorsement of the proposal came at a meeting of Union human resources development minister Kapil Sibal with education ministers of state governments. Several states also suggested that the scheme should be made a Centrally-funded one.
The human resource development ministry has been pushing for the implementation of the national vocational education curriculum framework as it is expected to provide additional vocational avenues for children who aren’t able to go in for higher studies.
