Srini in Delhi to chair key meet
Mr N. Srinivasan will be back as de jure president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India when he chairs Friday’s working committee meeting here. Mr Srinivasan was de facto president even in self-exile, but this move may spark off a fresh controversy and possible judicial action.
Voices of dissent have already been heard, with senior BCCI member Niranjan Shah taking a bold stand against Mr Srinivasan defying court criticism of a pliant probe panel.
The president may still win the numbers game on Friday but this is certain to have consequences as the IPL and BCCI have taken hugs image hits after spot-fixing charges against Rajasthan Royals players, and Gurunath Meiyappan, a Chennai Super Kings functionary, was arrested for suspected betting.
BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel put all doubts to rest on who will chair Friday’s meeting: “He (Srinivasan) is BCCI chief and has already started working.”
