From spy kin, a demand for respect in film
Though he has done a commendable job while serving as India’s resident agent in Pakistan, but Ravindra Kaushik, who was captured by the Army, died a unsung death in Multan jail. His mother Amla Devi also passed away in 2007, without seeing his son. Now his family wants Yashraj Films to give due respect to the martyr in its upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger. The family has sent a legal notice to Yashraj Films.
“I have sent notices to Yashraj Films, the Film And TV Producers Guild and Film Federation of India and Central Board of Film Certification on behalf of my client Vikram Vashistha, the nephew of Kaushik, says lawyer Madhav Mitra in Jaipur. The family wants them to respect his as a martyr, says Mr Mitra.
The Bollywood thriller starring Salman Khan is said to be based on the life of Ravindra, who died in jail in 2002.
“We want the producer to provide us with a copy of the film. It is just to ensure that late Ravindra Kaushik is given his due respect in the film,” Mr Mitra added.
Vikarm said Ravindra was his maternal uncle. Born in 1952 in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar, he dedicated his life to the nation. ‘He was a very talented person and theatre was his passion. He was inspired to do something for his nation, and so after graduation, he joined the intelligence agency,” says Mr Vikram.
According to the family, Ravindra’s brother R.N. Kaushik fought a long battle to bring him back alive, but did not succeed.
