Split decision not good, says Kiran Kumar Reddy
Hyderabad: Referring to the present turmoil arising out of the contentious issue of the state’s division, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday warned that political parties or governments that fail to honour people’s wishes or take the right decisions will be rejected in a democracy.
Fuelling speculation about his future moves, the CM also said: “We will take a decision at an appropriate time, in accordance with the wishes of the Telugu people and for the progress of Telugunadu (land of Telugus).”
The Chief Minister was speaking at an event celebrating the Telugu language on International Mother Tongue Day, at Ravindra Bharathi. Though expressed in a subtle way, he made some sensational comments and it remains to be seen how the Congress Central leadership reacts.
“Party and its interests are of greater importance than that of an individual or a group of individuals. But parties form governments based on the opinion of the majority and governments shall work for the people,” he said.
His comments gained significance in the backdrop of the sharp criticism levelled against Congress president Sonia Gandhi that she favoured state division to get a significant number of seats in Telangana in the next general election, and lay the foundation for her son Rahul Gandhi’s ascent as PM.
“It is wrong of the party or the government to think that it can make decisions (of its choice). It is people who take decisions. There are several instances where people have voted out governments at the state and the Centre for failing to take the right decisions.”
The CM said that people must not lose patience at a critical juncture and should carry out agitations in a peaceful manner and within the purview of the law.State division is a sensitive issue and people on both sides are living in a charged atmosphere for the past 10 years. The governments must think of how to overcome the troubles arising out of certain decisions, he said.
