Speculation as 2 DMDK MLAs meet Jaya

Amid rumours that the ruling AIADMK is wooing MLAs from the main Opposition party, the DMDK, led by actor Vijayakanth, two DMDK legislators called on Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa at the secretariat on Friday to present petitions relating to problems in their constituencies. Madurai Central MLA R. Sundarrajan and Tittagudi MLA K. Tamil Azhagan’s meeting with Ms Jayalalithaa came barely a month after their party chief and Leader of the Opposition Vijayakanth finished a whirlwind tour of the state taking on the ruling AIADMK on various fronts.
“We came to present a petition concerning the development works to be taken up in our constituencies to chief minister. She heard our grievances and promised to do the needy,” Mr Sundarrajan told this newspaper. When asked whether they got permission from Mr Vijayakanth to meet chief minister, he said that they met chief minister to ensure that development works were taken in their constituencies. We will support all the good measures of the government,” he added.
“Let them take action,” was the terse reply from Mr Sudarrajan to a query on what would be their strategy if the party took action against them. He said he could not reply to “speculation” that the meeting was a precursor to them quitting DMDK and joining the AIADMK.
Mr Tamil Azhagan lauded the performance of the AIADMK government. “The government is doing well,” he said. He said that they met Ms Jayalalithaa to take up problem related to their constituencies.
A DMDK legislator said that the meeting of two legislators with Ms Jayalalithaa would not be a surprise for many in the party as they had been keeping away from the party works for the past four months. “Only Captain will decide on whether to take action against them or not. Mostly, they will not be expelled from the party but will be removed from the party posts,” he said.
The AIADMK and DMDK which contested the 2011 Assembly polls together parted ways after their leader Jayalalithaa and Vijayakanth engaged in a war of words in the assembly. DMDK has 29 MLAs in the Assembly.
