Speaker sends back PAC report to Joshi
The controversial draft report on the 2G spectrum allocation issue submitted by senior BJP leader and Public Accounts Committee chairman M.M. Joshi has been returned by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. The BJP, which although refrained from a structured response on the issue, used the occasion to attack Congress alleging that it
had made the parliamentary panel a forum for partisan politics. The BJP alleged that the country witnessed the worst kind of partisan politics in PAC, which never works on partisan lines. Dr Joshi’s office, however, maintained that it is yet to receive any official communication from the Speaker’s office on the issue.
Dr Joshi had submitted the report, whose authenticity was questioned by 11 of the 21 members of the committee, to the Speaker’s office on the last day of his previous term on April 30. Eleven members of the ruling coalition had criticised the report as an attempt to destabilise the UPA government. Dr Joshi had said that he expects the report to be tabled by the Speaker in the Parliament.
