SP, RJD plan street protests
The Samajwadi Party and the RJD continues to launch a scathing attack on the UPA government over the price rise issue. The two parties staged protests within the Parliament complex after the two Houses were adjourned.
“The price rise issue is above party politics. Though the adjournment motion has been rejected by the Speaker, the agitation will continue. We will all continue to agitate from street to Parliament and vice-versa,” stated RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The SP MPs, including UP state party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Shailedra Kumar, staged a separate noisy protest outside the Parliament. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, while giving indications that the agitation on price front was far from over, said his party would coordinate and cooperate with like minded parties to garner adequate support to fight against the government on the issue. “The secular plank never gave the Congress and UPA a licence to increase the prices or be mute spectators to the sufferings of the people. There is no party politics here. The price rise affects minorities also,” Mr Akhilesh Yadav told reporters.
The RJD chief, along with party colleagues, including former minister Mr Prem Chand Gupta, joined the agitating Left and BJD leaders Mr Basudeb Acharia, Mr Sitaram Yechury, Ms Brinda Karat (all CPI-M) and CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta as they were staging a protest at the main gate of Parliament.
