SP leader killed, UP area tense
The murder of a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader in Allahabad district on Friday night sparked violence and tension after party activists damaged several vehicles, blocked roads and targeted public property in protest against the killing. Ajai Rai, 30, was found dead on Friday night in Naini area.
His body bearing bullet injuries was recovered from bushes and his licensed revolver was missing.
The police was yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime and the identity of the attackers. Party activists indulged in heavy stone-pelting, targeting vehicles and public property.

Swai Madhopur tense, kin refuse to accept body

March 19: The situation remained tense in Swai Madhopur and nearby villages on the third day while leaders of the Meena community demanded martyr status for the deceased Rajesh Meena, who had jumped to death from a water head tank.
The deceased’s family refused to accept the body which has been lying at a government hospital in Swai Madhopur. Meena, a student leader, had climbed on the water head tank on Thursday while protesting against the police and jumped off. The mob burnt alive police inspector Phool Mohammed.

Yeddy got kickbacks of `13cr: HDK
Bengaluru, March 19: Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was on Saturday accused by the JD(S) of receiving `13 crores in “kickbacks” through two private firms owned by his family, from a private company for awarding an irrigation project contract to it. Davalagiri Property Developers and Sahyadri Health Care and Diagnostics, run by family members of Mr Yeddyurappa, had benefited from a Murudeshwara Power Corporation, in return for awarding the `1,032-crore Upper Bhadra Lift irrigation scheme package-II, to it, JD(S) chief H.D. Kumaraswamy alleged.

Retired defence personnel pension petition accepted

March 19: The Committee on Petitions of the Parliament has accepted a petition on grant of one-rank-one-pension to retired defence personnel. The petition was moved by Parliament member Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
The committee will invite comments and suggestions from the public and will meet to discuss the petition. During the discussion, the committee will also take into account all the views received from various quarters on this issue.
Mr Chandrasekhar has been campaigning for resolution of one-rank-one-pension issue for ex-servicemen. This will address the issue of sense of hurt in the armed forces by bringing parity, he argued.
