SP leader Amar Mani, wife file mercy petition
Former UP minister and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Mani Tripathi and his wife Madhu Mani Tripathi — both convicted in the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla — have moved a mercy petition before UP governor B.L. Joshi.
In the mercy petition, Amar Mani and his wife Madhu Mani have said that they are very ill and are not getting proper treatment in jail. They also claimed that both their children have grown up and are facing difficulty in their marriage.
However, Nidhi Shukla, sister of the slain poetess, met the governor in Lucknow and opposed the application of the convicted couple.
The petition sent to the Governor pleads that their remaining sentence should be waived off.
Meanwhile, Nidhi Shukla told reporters after meeting the Governor that she had placed all the facts before the governor and claimed that even review petitions of the convicted couple has been rejected by the Supreme Court twice.
”When the Supreme Court has not entertained the couple’s petition and has upheld the life sentence awarded to them, then how can they move a mercy petition before the governor,” she said.
Ms Nidhi Shukla also submitted an application to the governor alleging that Amar Mani Tripathi is a noted criminal and grade A history-sheeter of Gorakhpur and there are around 33 cases pending against him.
“The CBI has presented all the evidences against the couple and all are proved in all the courts after which they were convicted,” she said.
