SP, BSP woo brahmins on Parshuram Jayanti
“Parshuram Jayanti” has never been celebrated with as much fervour as it was on Sunday.
With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party used the occasion to roll out the red carpet for Brahmins and win them over to their side.
The Samajwadi Brahmin Sammelan was held in Lucknow while the BSP Brahmin Sammelan was held in Maharajganj on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion at the Samajwadi Party’s state headquarters, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that his government would withdraw all false cases lodged against Brahmins by the previous regime.
He said that his party had always supported and promoted Brahmins and added that Brahmins would prove to be a deciding factor in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“Jidhar Brahmin jayega, udhar hi sarkar banegi . Aap jidhar ki hawa chala doge, udhar hi satta hogi,” he said.
Accusing the BSP of using Brahmins just as votes to get power, the chief minister said that Brahmins, as a community, were insulted and humiliated in the BSP regime. “I assure you that the Samajwadi Party will always fight for your rights, your honour and your dignity,” he said.
The Samajwadi Brahmin Sammelan was hosted by two Brahmin ministers, Manoj Pandey and Tej Narain Pandey, and MLA Santosh Pandey with a host of Brahmin party workers lending their support through huge hoardings plastered across the state capital.
