SP: Amar party insignificant

The Samajwadi Party has stated that expelled party leader Amar Singh’s new political outfit, Lok Manch, will just add to a long list of insignificant parties in UP. The party has also made light of the claim of Mr Amar Singh that he had played an instrumental role in the humiliating defeat of the SP candidate in the Dumariyaganj Assembly byelections.

The newly-elected Rajya Sabha MP from UP and the SP spokesman, Mr Mohan Singh, on Friday told this newspaper that his party is not seriously taking Mr Amar Singh’s new political outfit. Mr Amar Singh this week had told reporters that his party would target SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in his home turf. A rally has also been lined up in the first week of July in Nidhauli Kalan in Etah district.
However, the SP said that the claims of Mr Amar Singh on the Dumariyaganj is far from the reality. “The Peace Party has been strong in about four Assembly constituencies in UP — two each in the Sant Kabir Nagar and Adarsh Nagar area. This party has been getting the Muslim support in these segments. The Peace Party had bagged about 29,000 votes in the Dumariyaganj Assembly segment in the last Lok Sabha elections. After the full backing of Mr Amar Singh, this party got 3,000 less votes this time, which proves that his claims are overstated,” stated Mr Mohan Singh.
The SP also took potshots at Mr Amar Singh roping in filmstars like Sanjay Dutt and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari in his outfit. “Mr Amar Singh thinks that by bringing filmstars like Sanjay Dutt and Manoj Tiwari, he can dent SP’s support base.
This is, however, far from the reality. The UP politics has proved that the political parties have gained nothing from these filmstars,” said Mr Mohan Singh.
