SP (22 MPs) backs UPA
Giving relief to the beleaguered Congress-led UPA-2 government, the Samaj-wadi Party, with 22 MPs in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday said it will ensure the Manmohan Singh government serves its full term.
Carrying forward the claims by Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and UP CM-designate Akhilesh Yadav that they don’t want a mid-term poll, SP Lok Sabha chief whip Shailendra Kumar said Tuesday on the floor of the House that his party would “not allow at any cost a premature fall” of the UPA government.
This reassurance from the Samajwadi Party, which recently swept the UP Assembly polls, comes as big relief to the Congress, particularly when its key ally, the Trinamul Congress, has of late been creating a lot of trouble for it.
The SP chief whip said: “Our party says the UPA will comfortably remain in power for the rest of its term.”
