South Delhi’s heavy power cuts to go on till weekend
Residents of several South Delhi areas had to sweat it out with long powercuts all through Tuesday. Delhi Transco Ltd attributed the disruption to work for installing a transmission tower near the Rajokri flyover to ensure power supply to Delhi airport. The heavy powercuts are likely to continue till the coming Sunday.
Areas like Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Jawaharlal Nehru University and surrounding localities faced powercuts lasting five to six hours. Even after resumption, the powercuts continued at frequent and short intervals. While many sweated it out in homes and offices, others faced problems in getting access to water with the pumps remaining idle.
Delhi Transco had already issued a notice saying that the installation of the tower connecting the Mehrauli-Bamnauli transmission line would lead to disruption in supply from 4.30 pm Monday (June 14) to 4.30 pm Sunday (June 20). The line will feed the DIAL 220 KV substation. Though arrangements had been made for exigencies, the power supply would be affected in many areas, Delhi Transco had warned.
The disruption of power supply came at a time when the heat in the city is once again on the rise. The maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 40.6 degrees Celsius (one degree above normal), while the minimum was 27.8 degrees Celsius.
