Sonia: Where did the Rs 1 lakh cr U.P. grants go?
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Vadra jointly addressed a rally for the first time on Tuesday in Rae Bareli.
The mother-daughter duo hit out against the Mayawati government, accusing it of large-scale corruption in Central schemes worth over Rs 1 lakh crore.
Priyanka assured her mother that she and the Congress workers would ensure the party’s victory in all five Assembly ssegments in Rae Bareli, Mrs Gandhi rued the fact that non-Congress governments in Uttar Pradesh had ruined the state, which had seen better days earlier under the Congress.
Mrs Gandhi said the Centre had never differentiated among states while allotting development funds, and UP got the lion’s share due to its size and population. “Where is that money? Where was it spent? It’s clear scams and corruption have taken place,” she said, urging people to vote the Congress to power.
Mrs Gandhi criticised the state government for obstructing implementation of Central schemes in Rae Bareli and Amethi, which are represented by her and son Rahul respectively in the Lok Sabha.
Citing the example of the rail coach factory at Rae Bareli that was considerably delayed by the state government, the Congress president said it appeared that the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi did not have any right to get employment.
