Sonia says mistakes made, corrective steps expected
Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to take “corrective steps” in the organisation soon. An indication to this effect was available after she held one-on-one meetings with AICC officials and leaders in charge of different states here on Wednesday, a day after the party was defeated in the Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa Assembly polls.
“This is something we will have to discuss within and decide. We have to sit down and look at the situation and results in every state and then together work out a plan to correct the mistakes that we have made,” Mrs Gandhi said.
Mrs Gandhi said that the election results hold a lesson for the party which she would discuss with party leaders and told partymen to “pull up their socks”. “Congress party has got support below its expectations. We accept it with all humility,” Mrs Gandhi told reporters.
Asked whether a lack of leadership was the cause, she said, “Rather than a lack of leaders, too many leaders, that is our problem.”
