Sonia meets Vilasrao, Chavan

Congress president Sonia Gandhi started meeting party leaders, including Union ministers, from Tuesday.

The other day, four to five leaders called on her at her 10, Janpath residence. They included Union ministers Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik and Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
On Wednesday, Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh met her. Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan too was said to have called on the party president. They met her separately.
Mrs Gandhi had earlier chaired the Congress’ central election committee meeting held on Thursday. It was called to shortlist party nominees for the UP Assembly elections.
After the meeting, Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi had said: “Mrs Gandhi participated in the meeting happily and normally as she used to do earlier. Like in the past, she came out of her house to welcome the PM and see him off after the 65-minute-long meeting. She discussed issues as she used to do earlier,” he said.
He also recalled that soon after coming back here, she had begun going through papers related to party work. “She is fine but as per the doctor’s advice it will take her some time to resume all the work she earlier did,” he said.
Another general secretary, Mr Digvijay Singh, who had also attended the meeting, said Mrs Gandhi was looking “quite happy and actively participated in the meeting. Nobody could make out that she has undergone any operation,” he said.
After returning from the surgery abroad, the Congress chief inducted Rahul Gandhi, Mukul Wasnik, M. Veerappa Moily, B.K. Handique and Dr Girija Vyas in the party’s central election committee. She has, however, not started attending the party’s core group meeting.
Last Friday, Mr Gandhi met the Prime Minister ahead of the core group meeting. This week, the core group may not meet since Dr Singh and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee are on official foreign trips.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
