Sonia to leaders: Exercise restraint

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday asked Telangana leaders to maintain “restraint, brotherhood and cordial relations” with people of Andhra and Rayalseema regions as the process started for the creation of a separate state.
A delegation comprising Union ministers S. Jaipal Reddy, Balram Naik, MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, S. Rajaiah, P. Govardhana Reddy and a large contingent of state ministers from the region called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mrs Gandhi, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar to thank them for the Telangana decision. The party vice-president Rahul Gandhi was also at 10 Janpath, when the Telangana leaders visited there.
“You have to maintain restraint because some people may be aggrieved over the decision. Maintain brotherhood with people of other regions with whom you have lived for so long. Maintain a cordial relationship and give support to people from the other regions, who have settled in the Telangana region,” Mrs Gandhi is learnt to have told the delegation.
The party MP Rajaiah told PTI that Mrs Gandhi was keen that people from non-Telangana regions living in Hyderabad and other districts of the Telangana region are given support and have a sense of belonging.

Rajnath calls for new SRC
AGE CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi, July 31

BJP chief Rajnath Singh on Wednesday accused the UPA government of delaying formation of Telang-ana and favoured setting up of a new States Reorg-anisation Commi-ssion (SRC) to look into demands for carving out new states.
“We wish all the youth who sacrificed their lives for a separate Telangana could see its formation. We are obviously saddened. This happened as the decision was not taken on time,” Mr Singh said.
To a question on demands by several groups for creation of newer states, he said a new SRC should be set up to give a comprehensive report on the socio-economic situation. Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Tuesday had said, “As far as we are concerned, our party is concerned, if Telangana was not formed when we had formed three new states it was only because of our respect to one of our coalition partners. Otherwise we would have done it even then.”
