Sonia admitted to AIIMS
Congress president and UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, who has been present in Parliament since morning leading the ambitious Food Security Bill, was rushed to AIIMS after she suddenly fell ill late on Monday evening. She was escorted out of Parliament, after the party chief complained of “breathlessness” while voting was underway. She was admitted to the AIIMS’ cardio-neuro unit around 9.20 pm.
A team of four doctors were treating Mrs Gandhi, who reportedly had viral fever since Sunday night.
She was taken to ICU where routine tests were on and ECG was being conducted. Her son and party vice- president Rahul Gandhi and union minister, Kumari Selja escorted her to the hospital. Mrs Gandhi held on to Ms Selja as she felt “dizzy,” sources said. Later, her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi and son-in-law Robert Vadera rushed to AIIMS. Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was also at AIIMS.
A security cordon has been thrown around the cardio unit, which was teeming with scribes.
