Singapore docs: Condition ‘grave’
The 23-year-old gangrape victim flown to Singapore late Wednesday was in “an extremely critical condition” at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Dr Kelvin Loh, its chief executive, said Thursday. She reached the hospital at 5 am Singapore time and was immediately wheeled into the ICU.
A doctor accompanying her told this newspaper from Singapore “her condition is grave, and doctors are trying everything”. All four Delhi doctors who went with her will return home on Friday.
The Indian high commission in Singapore said it was in “close touch” with the hospital, where the victim was “receiving full medical attention”. It said there were many offers to help the woman and her family. “We are deeply grateful for all these offers... We request the privacy of the patient, her family and the medical team is fully respected so that the treatment may continue smoothly.”
A multi-disciplinary team of specialists is taking care of her in Singapore. “Prior to arrival, she had undergone three abdominal surgeries, and experienced a cardiac arrest in India,” Dr Loh added.
