Sikhs want ban on Sangh Parivar, Abhinav Bharat
Citing the facts emerging from the Central Bureau of Investigation and National Investigation Agency’s probes into the bombings at Malegaon, Hyderabad, Ajmer and onboard the Samjhauta Express as “incriminating evidence”, radical Sikh groups aligned with the Dal Khalsa have sought a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Hindu terror suspect Swami Aseemanand’s alma mater, Abhinav Bharat.
In an urgent memorandum addressed to Union home minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday, the Dal Khalsa and its associates urged him to take immediate steps towards “proscribing the RSS and Abhinav Bharat and detain their top leaders for inciting violence against minorities.”

Omar chairs meeting on J&K security

Jan. 16: Amid renewed debate over the troop cut in J&K following the statement of Union home secretary vis-à-vis 25 per cent reduction in para-military forces’ strength and ongoing raging issue of BJP’s flag hoisting plan at Lal Chowk, chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday chaired Unified Headquarters meeting here and reviewed the security scenario in the state.
During the meeting various matters pertaining to the law and order and general security situation in the state were discussed in detail. Earlier, the GOC in Chief Northern Command Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik had one-to-one meeting with the chief minister. They discussed security related matters during the meeting.

Army hoists Indian flag at South Pole
New Delhi, Jan. 16: The Indian Army on Saturday achieved another adventure feat when its skiing expedition to Antarctica reached the geographic South Pole and marked it by observing the 63rd Army Day.
“The expedition team led by Colonel Anand Swaroop and seven other soldiers after successfully traversing the long distance of the Antarctic region finally reached its destination of the geographic South Pole and observed the Army Day there,” an Army spokesperson said here.
This was the first ever coast to pole skiing expedition to the South Pole. This journey also marked 100 years of the first expedition taken out by Roald Amundsen. The team for the 50-day expedition had been selected after trials at the High Altitude Warfare School of the Army at Gulmarg. —IANS
