Sibal to tame telco rivalry

Dec. 21: The telecom minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, on Tuesday met the heads of top telecom firms — Mr Ratan Tata, Mr Anil Ambani, and Mr Sunil Mittal — to assure them that the government will be fair and transparent to the industry.

Mr Sibal, who met them separately, is said to have raised concerns over corporate rivalry and its negative impact on the sector.

The minister said he conveyed to the industry that there will not be any discrimination.

Currently, a war of words has been going on between the old and the new GSM players where each side blames the other of hoarding spectrum.

Mr Sibal said, “We have a lot of unallocated spectrum and some policy intervention is need to make it to available to the industry.”
