Shootout between seers kills labourer

Firing between two groups of seers at the famous Hanuman Garhi temple complex in Ayodhya left one person dead and two others critically wounded.

The deceased has been identified as Bharat, a labourer from Barabanki. Mahant Anil Das, Chela Balram Das and a passer-by were wounded in the firing that took place on Sunday evening.
According to the police, two groups, led by Mahant Bhavnath Das and Mahant Harishankar Das, both belonging to different sects of the Hanuman Garhi temple, had been involved for a long time in disputes over distribution of properties and wealth collected at the temple. The two groups opened fired at each other over a dispute over blocking the passage to a building.
