Shivanand dropped as JD-U spokesman
In a move to clip the wings of senior JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari, the party on Tuesday dropped him from the posts of spokesperson and general secretary. Mr Tiwari in the past had put the party in soup over his controversial remarks on various issues.
While announcing the names of the new office-bearers of the party, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Tuesday maintained that Rajya Sabha MP K.C. Tyagi will be the sole spokesperson of the party. However, Mr Tiwari continues to be the JD(U) leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Mr Tiwari, who is considered close to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, had caused discomforts in relations with the BJP a number of times when the JD(U) was part of the NDA. Mr Yadav had to clarify on occasions that Mr Tiwari’s controversial remarks were not that of the party. However, sources said the apparent clipping of the wings of Mr Tiwari by the party chief has the approval of Bihar chief minister.
Meanwhile, Mr Yadav welcomed Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s comment that he does not want Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi being the country’s next prime minister.
