Shinde: No clarity on Ishrat
Amid the simmering tension between the top two Central agencies, the Intelligence Bureau and the CBI on the ongoing probe into Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde Thursday said there is no clarity yet on whether the Ishrat was indeed a terrorist.
The CBI, probing the alleged fake encounter in Gujarat in 2004, is looking into the role of an IB officer in the case.
On Thursday, Mr Shinde says he is still not satisfied by documents given to him on claims that LeT terrorist David Coleman Headley had spoken about Ishrat. Also, Mr Shinde called Liaquat Shah, the Kashmiri returning from Pakistan, “innocent” even as he maintained that the NIA was still probing the case wherein Liaquat was arrested by the Delhi police on charges of being a terrorist. The police version had been countered by the J&K police which said he was entering India under the government’s relief and rehabilitation package. “We do not want to punish any innocent person. That is why he has got bail. The matter is being probed by the NIA,” he said.
On whether he had got information whether Ishrat Jahan was a terrorist, Mr Shinde said he had sought more information about Ishrat.
as he was not satisfied with the documents he had received so far. On the reported difference between CBI and IB over the case, he maintained that both agencies are doing their own job. “There is no difference. They are working cordially. No one is sad,” he said.
