Shinde: Naxals gravest of all challenges
Maintaining that the “Naxal menace” is one of the gravest challenges for the country, Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday said that the strategy to be adopted to combat violence in areas affected by Left-wing extremism has to be a combination of security measures coupled with development.
Addressing members of the consultative committee for the home ministry here, Mr Shinde stressed upon the need to have more funds under the integrated action plan for Naxal-affected districts. “Left-wing extremism is one of the gravest challenges for the country and the strategy to be adopted to combat violence in these areas has to be a combination of security measures coupled with development,” said the home minister.
Naxals carried out a daring attack in Jharkhand’s Dumka district on Tuesday when they attacked a police motorcade killing six cops, including an SP.
On the issue of cross-border terrorism, Mr Shinde said Pakistan-based terrorist groups continue to sponsor, plan and organise terror acts in India and their activities remain a threat in the hinterland.

Bihar dgp, suspended DIG in F.I.R. battle
ANAND S.T. DAS
PATNA, JULy 2
An unseemly battle has erupted between Bihar DGP Abhayanand and suspended DIG Alok Kumar with the latter first lodging an FIR alleging caste-related harassment by the former and the police then lodging an FIR against Mr Kumar.
Undergoing suspension since February 5 following charges that he made an extortion demand of `10 crores from a liquor trader, Mr Kumar lodged an FIR against Mr Abhayanand and two other senior IPS officers at the SC&ST police station of Bhagwan Bazar in Saran district on Sunday. But the police in Saran, where Mr Kumar was last posted as DIG when the serious corruption charges against him surfaced, rejected his FIR on technical grounds and lodged an FIR against him on Monday for allegedly forcing the police station officials to formally register his written complaint as an FIR.
The heightened quarrel in the top rung of the state police force over alleged caste-related atrocities led to the suspension of Bhagwanpur SHO Vinod Ram for his absence when Kumar visited the police station to lodge his FIR.
