Shettar goes where BSY wouldn’t
Chamarajanagar: Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday defied superstition and pooh-poohed all talk of the so-called ‘Chamarajanagar jinx’ by becoming only the second CM to visit the district headquarters in the past 21 years. JD(S) chief H.D. Kumaraswamy was the last CM to visit Chamarajanagar taluk in 2007.
Mr. Shettar topped off his visit which had seen a clamour from locals pleading with him not to visit, by promising a Rs 100 cr special grant for Chamarajanagar district in the forthcoming budget, this Feb. Other sops? An animal husbandry college, drinking water facility, and other projects totalling Rs 648 cr.
Mr. Shettar, who knows well that he only has three months left in office said: “Avoiding a particular taluk or district fearing a jinx is rubbish.”
What he left unsaid, his arch enemy B S Yeddyurappa had given the town a miss.
Shettar said he became CM after visiting Chamarajanagar when he was rural development minister and speaker of the assembly. “The Chamarajanagar jinx is unjustifiable and illogical. I’ll revisit Chamarajanagar after presenting the budget in February,” he said.
If, he is still king of all he surveys at the Vidhana Soudha.
