Around two months after the CBI filed a charge sheet against five persons for their alleged roles in the murder of transparency activist Shehla Masood, a special CBI court today framed charges against all of them.

Special CBI Judge Anupam Srivastav framed charges under Section 302(murder) and 120 B (Criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code against the main accused Zahida Pervez.

On May 25, the investigative agency had filed a charge sheet against the five accused including the slain activist Masood's friend Zahida, who had allegedly hired the contract killers to eliminate her.

The four others who were charge-sheeted are Saba Farooqui, Irfan Ali, Tabish Khan and Saquib Ali 'Danger'. Zahida's friend Saba Farooqui was also framed under section 302, 120 B and Arms Act.

Contract killers Irfan Ali and Tabish Khan were framed under Section 302, 120 B of IPC along with arms act. Saquib, who had allegedly arranged for the killers, was also framed under Section 302 of IPC along with several other sections. However, when the charges were read out to the accused they pleaded innocence.

The court on Saturday also rejected the review petition seeking transfer of the case trial to Bhopal. Zahida and four other accused have sought the transfer of the trial to Bhopal on the ground that the offence had taken place there.

"After hearing arguments of both the sides, Special CBI Judge Anupam Srivastav upheld the decision of the Special Magistrate (CBI), Shubhra Singh, about the jurisdiction of trial in Shehla murder case and rejected our revision petition," one of the defence lawyers Yawar Khan told reporters. The next hearing is posted on August 1, he said.
